The Thirteenth Labor of Hercules: Starting the 1:1 Initiative

School level leaders are currently being charged with the Herculean task of implementing 1:1 technology initiatives on their campuses. Could Hercules himself have persevered unscathed though this modern day labor? He would have if he had combined shared leadership, school-to-school collaboration, intentional planning, and tiered communication in his plan.
Participants of this session will walk away with field tested strategies from two administrators and three teachers in the technology trenches of two comprehensive public high schools implementing 1:1 iPad initiatives. Presenters will share their experiences—heroic and tragic—along with recommendations for establishing timelines, creating a school “Tech Rich” team, a model for professional development, ideas for communicating with stakeholders, successful structures for distributing the devices, managing initial and ongoing logistics, and maintaining a pedagogical focus. In addition to having their questions answered candidly and realistically, participants will receive digital materials, resources, and links to helpful resources.
