Seek & Ye Shall Find: 21st Century Research

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

When was the last time you used a card catalog? What about searched microfiche? Research has changed, but it is still a crucial skill, and perhaps even more relevant today, where Google puts answers at our fingertips (not to mention the digital research requirements of Common Core). However, have you ever seen a student Google something like “cars?” As much as they have the option to learn an unfathomable amount of information with Google, they’re drowning in all the options.

While we shouldn’t take the options away, we can tell them how to be more efficient in their searches and read their sources with a more critical eye. In this session, participants will spend the majority of the time analyzing how a search is completed, from forming a useful research question, to refining a search, to assessing who is giving the information. Relevant to all devices. Primarily targeted at grades 5+.
