The ABC's of Social Communication iPad Apps for Digital Citizenship

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Isn’t it time to add mobile technology to your toolbox, to foster social communication and digital citizenship skills in your students? The recent ease of technology integration using tablets such as the iPad® by Apple™, have made eLearning a viable, increasingly preferable option for many educators. We currently live in the iEra where social currency and global communication drive our shared economy and best practices. The educational arena is ripe for disruption. It’s time to implement more uniform, authentic, and effective teachable moments. Ones that enable our students to blossom as individuals, to learn to problem solve as a group, and to take their place in the future workforce of the new millennium.

Best practices in education begins with an understanding of the importance of creating developmentally sound, multi-sensory learning experiences which facilitate “whole body learning”. Best practices in educational technology integration begins with the understanding that customizable, collaborative teachable moments facilitate overall long term retention of learned skills.

An individualized and intuitive user interface and user experience spur motivation, engagement, and ultimately independent critical thinking. The truth is, a child’s membership into the ranks of digital citizenship is contingent on cultural and communication factors, not just cognitive. It is up to us to disrupt eLearning and determine learning outcomes which promote thought leadership and creativity in our students which carry them into adulthood.

This seminar was designed to give an overview of how to use the iPad in class to foster overall social communication skills using the Socially Speaking™ ABC Framework:
A= Attitude: iPad Apps to Foster Self Regulation
B= Brainstorming: iPad Apps to Foster Problem Solving
C= Collaboration: iPad Apps to Foster Communication
Attendees will learn to use specific iPad Apps to design lessons that are truly user friendly and conducive to enhancing creativity and problem solving for more effective generalization of learned skills and overall digital citizenship.
