Isn’t it time to add mobile technology to your toolbox, to foster social communication and digital citizenship skills in your students? eLearning has become wide- spread, thanks to the nature of technology as both an intrinsic reinforcer, and a gateway of information via the Internet. The subsequent spurring of the Digital Age, and recent ease of technology integration using tablets such as the iPad® by Apple™, have made eLearning a viable, increasingly preferable option for many educators. We currently live in the iEra where social currency and global communication drive our shared economy and best practices. The educational arena is ripe for disruption and it’s time to implement more uniform, authentic, and effective teachable moments that enable our students to blossom as individuals, to learn to problem solve as a group, and to take their place in the future workforce of the new millennium.

Best practices in education begins with an understanding of the student’s learning style which affects self regulation skills and rate of overall progress. Best practices in educational technology integration begins with the understanding that customized, developmentally sequential lessons are required to meet the individual needs of students marching in lockstep to curricula federally designed to “level of the playing field”. The truth is, a child’s membership into the ranks of digital citizenship is contingent on cultural and communication factors, not just cognitive. It is up to us to disrupt eLearning and determine learning outcomes which are aligned with our students’ strengths and interests, not just their weaknesses. It is time to improve the quality of the overall learning environment, and the child’s reactions to it.

This seminar was designed to give an overview of how to use the iPad in class to foster self regulation and social communication skills, especially in students with learning differences. Learn which iPad App to use when, and design lessons that are truly user friendly, developmentally relevant, and conducive to enhancing creativity and problem solving. Learn which prerequisite skills to consider when planning goals/lesson plans with specific Apps, and harness the power of eLearning for greater impact.
