Creative, product-based apps are not just for older students. Put iPads in the hands of young children and be prepared to be amazed. Whether learning about plants or presidents, young children can produce meaningful digital products that demonstrate their understandings of the world around them. In this session, (1) you will learn how to integrate creative apps into your primary science and social studies classroom with a focus on Kindergarten to 2nd grade English Language Arts CCSS, and (2) you will have time to explore apps and collaborate to develop ready to use strategies in your own primary classroom. We will focus on CCSS writing standard W.6 (use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing in collaboration with peers), using a variety of iPad apps, including ChatterPix, Skitch, PicCollage, Hello Crayon and Shadow Puppet. These creative apps captivate young students and encourage them to share their content knowledge in original ways.
