What Will Your Verse Be? Digital Storytelling Using iPads and iMovie

Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of communication. Today you can share “What Your Verse Will Be” through digital stories. Digital technologies allow us to create and share our “verse” in a variety of ways. Join us to tell your digital story using iPads and iMovie trailers.
In this session attendees will learn about digital storytelling and the process of using an iPad and the iMovie app to create a digital story iMovie trailer.

The Common Core State Standards state that college and career ready students “use technology and digital media strategically and capably.” Students need to thoughtfully employ technology to “enhance their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language use” by selecting tools and mediums that best meet their communication goals and using tools that mirror the 21st century workplace. The standards also note that students should not only consume but also produce media throughout every aspect of the curriculum.

During the session participants will:
Develop an understanding of digital storytelling and its connection to student mastery of Common Core Standards in reading, writing, and listening and speaking.
Be introduced to the seven elements of an effective digital story.
Observe and learn from examples of digital stories created using iMovie trailers on iPads.
Brainstorm ideas for creating a own digital story and begin planning, writing, and storyboarding the digital story.
Learn how to select an appropriate Hollywood style trailer template for a digital story and add text, photos, and videos to the template.
Learn how to make simple edits to a project.
Finally, participants will an opportunity to create a digital story using the iMovie App and iMovie Trailer Templates.
